Even if you had braces when you were a kid, teeth can shift over time. Asymmetrical teeth can promote gum disease, decay, extreme wear and chewing problems. Twenty-five percent of orthodontic patients in the U.S. are adults. Do you want to be among them?

At the office of Windsor, we enjoy getting to know all of our patients—from adults to children—and providing them with the personalized service they deserve. We’re your go-to destination for excellent orthodontic treatment that will help you look and feel your best.

During your consultation, an orthodontist will decide which alignment method will work best for you. Here’s some info to get you started.

Clear aligners, also called transparent braces, are a series of custom-manufactured, form-fitting plastic trays that you switch out about every 14 days until your teeth have been moved to their proper positions. The new trays arrive by mail. Each new set of aligners has a slightly different fit from the previous one, which is how they gradually shift your teeth. You wear them for about 22 hours per day and take them out for only eating, brushing your teeth and cleaning the aligners themselves. They’re popular among adults.

Metal braces, popularly known as “train tracks,” are stainless-steel brackets that are placed around each tooth and connected via an archwire. The archwire is threaded through each bracket’s tiny clasp or O-ring.

Ceramicbraces are attached to the front of teeth. Unlike the metal braces, this type is less conspicuous because they blend with the color of the teeth.

Lingual braces are cemented to the backs of teeth. Adjusting to them is a bit different from adjusting to metal and ceramic clear braces in that speaking distinctly and eating may be a challenge because the braces are right next to your tongue and palate.
